In January 2015, Barry Watts and I climbed a new route on Molalit Tower in the Gondar Mountains, in the Amhara region of northern Ethiopia. French climbers Alain Bruzy and Magali Salle made the first ascent Molalit Tower in 2012 (AAJ 2014). Only the final pitch of our route, an easy scramble, was shared with theirs. We downclimbed and rappelled to descend. We call our route Abyssinia Álainn (200m, HS), which means Beautiful Ethiopia. There are plenty more routes of all grades to be done on Molalit Tower, along with the other objectives we saw in this part of Ethiopia, for anyone seeking adventure. And we found the Ethiopians themselves to be great people.
