On April 11, Matt Kogel and I flew into the central Chugach and completed the first recorded ascent of the north ridge of Mt. Goode (10,610’). The peak lies at the head of the Knik Glacier, approximately 40 miles southeast of Palmer, and this striking ridge beckons to be climbed.

We found moderate snow and ice climbing up to 60˚, and from the summit we managed an engaging ski descent over sastrugi and around crevasses down the standard east ridge route.

Two days later, we summited and skied Mt. Marcus Baker (13,176’), the highest peak in the Chugach. Over the following three days, we traversed the length of the Knik Glacier, skiing and hiking 46 quite adventurous miles to return to my front door in Knik.
