Annapurna I, First Ski Descent. On April 29, 17 days after leaving Base Camp, Andrej and Davorin Karnicar left Camp IV on Annapurna. Before sunrise they reached the last rock 200 meters below the summit. On the far right side they found a narrow couloir and at 8:25 a.m. they finished their ascent. After an hour on the summit, the brothers put their skis on and made the first ski descent. They went to the last snow before Base Camp, about 4500 to 4600 meters. They took short rests at Camp IV, C III and C1, reaching Base Camp at 6 p.m. The next day we found that Andrej Karnicar had frostbite on his toes so we called for a rescue flight by helicopter.
