Chau Chau Kang Nilda, Southeast Ridge. A ten-member expedition from Calcutta was led by Alok Basu. On September 15, Miss Yana Banerjee-Bey, Apu Chatterjee, Sumit Data, Mrs. Kalpana Ghosh, Tapo Nayan Ghosh, Chan- chal Hazra, Amaresh Malakar, and high-alitude porters K. Shab and Alam Thankur left Camp I at 18,000 feet and climbed for the first time the southeast ridge to reach the summit (6303 meters, 20,680 feet). They returned by the scree-covered normal route.
