Paine South Tower, East Face, 1986. After their ascent of the Central Tower of Paine (A.A.J., 1987, page 216), Elio Orlandi, Maurizio Giarolli and Ermanno Salvaterra on November 20, 1986 were joined by Ginella Paganini to repeat the difficult 1963 Armando Aste route on the South Tower of Paine. Bad weather had forced them to wait a couple of weeks between their ascents. The weather was beautiful and they made fast progress. They reached the summit at nine o’clock on the second morning. Orlandi became the first person to climb all three of the Paine Towers.
