A.A.C., Blue Ridge Section

Publication Year: 1987.

A.A.C., Blue Ridge Section. The Blue Ridge Section reorganized in 1986 with the election of new officers. The Section wishes to extend its invitation to other Club members to take advantage of our location in “Lobby City, U.S.A.,” for pursuing climbing-related issues with Congress and the various federal agencies located here. Our intent is to help others with logistics, i.e., rides from the airport, lodging, directions around the Washington bureaucracy. Because of increasing pressure on climbers to respond to matters ranging from liability to access, we feel the need to voice our opinions in Washington as well as in the local jurisdictions where the issues arise. Our Section hopes to make it easier for others to come to Washington to plead their causes where it counts.

The Section was also vaguely active climbing in an unorganized way. Several members had fine mountaineering accomplishments to their credit in 1986. Plans for 1987 include membership expansion and more active climbing involvement in the community.

Other Sections and climbing groups who wish to make enquiries concerning assistance in Washington, D.C., are encouraged to write or call the Section secretary, Stuart Pregnall, 214 13th Street S.E., 2, Washington, D.C. 20003; phone 202-543-3988.
