Nevado del Plomo, Southwest Ridge. A 21-man expedition including members of the Club Andino de Chile, Santiago, and Liceo (high school) J. V. Lastarria, Santiago, approached the border peaks with Argentina by entering the Barriga valley and crossing ridges until they reached the Juncal Sur Glacier. C. Lucero, N. Muñoz and R. Rodríguez made the first ascent of the southwest ridge of Nevado del Plomo (6050 meters, 19,850 feet) on February 16, Expedition members climbed several other peaks by standard routes, and also accomplished the first ascent of Cerro Dorado (5000 meters, 16,404 feet) in the northern extreme of the Picarte group. The expedition returned to Santiago by way of the Olivares Glacier.
