Deoban1. All twelve members of the Indian Military Academy at Dehra Dun climbed Deoban (22,490 feet) either on June 17 or 20. Deoban lies above the Zaskar valley and is east of Mana Peak; it was first climbed by Frank Smythe’s party in 1937. The IMA team went via the Joshimath-Malari route and came back via Bhyundar Pass and the Valley of Flowers. The members were Major H. V. Bahuguna, leader, Captains D. K. Khullar, R. P. Naidu and K. R. Nayar, Gurdial Singh, and Cadets P. S. Kohli, M. S. Aujla, A. Srivastava, R. K. Batra, H. C. Shah, Rampai Panth and S. K. Pradhan.

1. The Himalayan Club Newsletter No. 26 points out that it was not Deoban that was climbed. The peak climbed was the mountain of 20,336 feet above the Sem Kharak Glacier, which had been climbed by the Mountaineers Club, Calcutta, two days before the first of the IMA climbs, as mentioned above. The IMA ascents were the third and fourth.
