Hissar Range, Mura Peaks
Tajikistan, Pamir Alai
In June 2021, I led a group from Iskanderkul lake to Sarytag village, then west and south to the Mura Valley, leading off the Zambar Valley. The Mura Valley, located in the Hissar (a.k.a. Gissar) Range, has a small glacier with a beautiful lake, and near the Mura Pass you can find three small peaks. We climbed the central (3,960m, 38°57’11"N, 68°17'41"E) and western (3,975m) ones.
From the lake at 3,500m, we climbed south up the glacier, passing another small lake to reach the col between the two peaks. The central peak was reached by a snowy ridge with some steeper steps, which we graded 1B. We found the ascent of the west peak to be slightly harder, with two snow pitches of 45° and another pitch of easy rock climbing (steps of grade III). The team was myself, Michaela Bohmova, Jaroslav Hruby, Martin Krena, Jaromir Ondra, Matej Reznicek, Jiri Reznicek, Iva Reznickova, Jan Stoszek, and Ceslav Valosek.
