Langshisha Ri Group, Peak 6,130m, West Ridge
Nepal, Langtang Himal
Taking a permit for Langshisha Ri (6,412m), the French guide Pierre Rizzardo and two clients, Karl Grigulis and Sandra Lavorel, established base camp at 4,450m on the true right (northern) bank of the Langshisha Glacier. Above and to the northeast lay the huge scree slope that leads to a pass at 5,481m, and gives access to the glacier on the south side of Langshisha Ri above its difficult icefall. All three climbed this scree to place a camp on the pass, the ascent highly unpleasant, but neither technical nor too dangerous.
From this vantage they could see that the southern slopes of the mountains were very dry, so they changed their objective to an "all white" summit to the east. This is the flat bump at 28°12'11.25"N, 85°43'32.12"E, immediately to the west of Peak 6,152m, as marked on the HMG-Finn map. On October 16, the French team climbed on the left flank of the west ridge, zigzagging between crevasses and short steep snow steps. The grade was PD and their GPS read 6,130m on the summit. While it is well known that much unauthorized climbing has taken place in the Langtang, no recorded ascent of this top has been found.
