Author: Lindsay Griffin. Climb Year: 2015. Publication Year: 2018.

Takanori Mashimo’s six-member Japanese expedition, which made the first ascent of Dzanye II in October 2015 (AAJ 2016), also made an unsuccessful attempt on Lhonak Peak (a.k.a. Rifil Peak, 6,070m, 27.830876°N, 88.054761°E), a summit with no recorded ascent that was brought onto the permitted list in 2014. The expedition left the Lhonak Valley at around 4,600m and penetrated the gorge leading east to the Chhyatundinga Glacier (a.k.a. Broken Glacier). From an advanced camp below the entrance to the first glacier bay on the north side of the valley, they climbed onto the south-southeast ridge of Lhonak Peak, where they were stopped by loose terrain on the crest.
