In March, Carrie Wang and I climbed two peaks comprising the “last of the Western Chugach Mountains.” The Western Chugach includes all peaks with at least 500' of prominence south of the Knik River Valley and west of the west fork of Twentymile River.

We first made a base camp at Bagg Pass on the eastern edge of the Western Chugach Mountains. On March 21 we skinned up Peak 4,360', and the following day we skinned partway up and then climbed Whitecrown (6,390') via a spur on its southeast ridge. These were reportedly the last two unclimbed peaks in the Western Chugach. We climbed a few other peaks on the same trip.

On July 16, Carrie and I climbed Far Out Peak (5,750') and Pass Out Peak (5,940') from the flats to the northeast. My summiting of these two peaks marked the first time anyone had climbed all 166 peaks in the Western Chugach.
