The Stilleto, new routes; Seldom Seen Wall, new routes

When Jacob Neathawk and I climbed a new start to the southwest corner on the Petit Grepon in Rocky Mountain National Park in September 2012, I realized that there was plenty of untapped terrain farther up the Sky Pond basin. So, in June 2013, Josh Finkelstein and I wandered up the valley, intent on exploring the Seldom Seen Wall.

On our first trip we got a little distracted by a lovely tower to the west of Sharkstooth: the Stilleto. We climbed a steep line on the left side of the tower: Misericorde (III 5.11- R). We also saw a great-looking line on the right side of the tower and felt compelled to return the following weekend to complete Shoe Fetish (III 5.11-). Both of these routes involve steep, featured climbing.

Finally, in July, Doug Haller and I made it to the Seldom Seen Wall and explored the steep buttress to the left of the Route That Kor Forgot (Grauch-Sheridan, 2010), thinking that the continuous, steep terrain might provide some good climbing. We climbed a prominent dihedral system high on the wall: Peekaboo Dihedral (III 5.10-). A few weeks later, Josh and I returned with the hope of climbing a steep dihedral to the left, but stormy and cold weather made us opt for the buttress to the right, and we climbed the Relusive Buttress (III 5.9 R). We later returned and climbed that steep diehdral left of the Peekaboo Dihedral. The resulting route, Outta Sight (III 5.10+), was as steep as we’d anticipated, with our tag line hanging free for the final three pitches.
