La Esfinge, Southeast Face, Chappie

Peru, Cordillera Blanca
Author: Information from Simon Gietl and Roger Schäli. Climb Year: 2015. Publication Year: 2016.

Roger Schäli and Simon Gietl climbed a new route on La Esfinge (5,325m) in the Paron Valley in early July. Chappie (600m, 7b+) is situated on the upper right (shorter) side of the southeast face, between the routes Intuition (AAJ 2001) and Dion’s Dihedral (AAJ 2001), and took the duo five days to complete. The route climbs a prominent thin crack system, with bolts at the belays. They suggest future ascents could be done in one to two days with a standard rack.
