SLIP ON ROCK, CLIMBING UNROPED

British Columbia, Rocky Mountains, Mt. Robson

On July 28, 1979, John Harlin of Rhode Island and Chuck Hospedales of Jasper successfully climbed Mt. Robson via the Hourglass. At 10:30 p.m., while descending rock ledges adjacent to the Hourglass, Hospedales slipped on snow covered scree and fell 1,000 feet. He died of severe head injuries. (Source: D. A.
