Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park, Grand Teton. On August 14, Tom Spencer (27), Ben Peterson (26), Lawrence Swanson (24), and Bonnie Darger (21) had completed an ascent of the Grand Teton and were just leaving the Lower Saddle on the descent when Spencer’s right foot momentarily hung up on a rock. He gave the foot a quick jerk and heard a snap in his ankle. Spencer examined the ankle and assumed he had fractured one of the small bones, he wrapped the ankle tightly with gauze and was able to complete the descent with the aid of the other members of his party.
