A.A.C., Midwest Section

Publication Year: 2003.

AAC, Midwest Section. The following summarizes the Section's 2002 activities. In February the Midwest Section represented the AAC at the annual International Adventure Travel and Outdoor Show on Navy Pier in Chicago. This was a fine opportunity for the Club to be “seen and heard” in the community and for us to meet current members and propagate new ones.

In March the Midwest Section Dinner, hosted jointly with the Chicago Mountaineering Club, brought in over $900 for the AAC library.

In September we once again represented the Club at the International Outdoor Festival, held in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. Despite the low attendance, it was a worthwhile weekend of beautiful Chicago weather and terrific slide shows and presentations.

Finally, Jacek Czyz completed a new route on Yosemite’s El Capitan on November 20 after 25 days of climbing. He soloed the route of 22 pitches, 16 of which were new. Rated at A4+, this route is located between the Nose and the Salathe Wall, cutting through Muir Wall four times.
