South America, Ecuador, Antisana Norte

Publication Year: 1987.

Antisana Norte. One of the finest peaks in Ecuador, Antisana Norte (c. 18,400 feet) was ascended for the first and only time on November 1972. Now, six climbers from Ambato placed a base camp near the Laguna (lake) del Volcán and a high one on the north glacier of Antisana. Four of the group reached the main summit (5705 meters, 18,717 feet), while Carlos Vascónez and I managed to reach that of Antisana Norte, overcoming along the way a number of ice towers on the west ridge on November 4, 1984.
