North America, United States, Montana, Mount Cowan, Absaroka Range, 1985

Publication Year: 1987.

Mount Cowan, Absaroka Range, 1985. In August 1984 Curt Vogel and Lisa Schassberger climbed the first four pitches of a route on the most prominent buttress of Mount Cowan as seen from Elbow Lake. Due to a lack of time, they could not finish the route. In July 1985, Vogel and I returned and completed the remaining two pitches. The route ascends the obvious crack that splits the lowerdetached flake on the buttress. The climbing consists of fist- and hand-jamming (5.7 to 5.8) on excellent rock with occasional bits of face climbing. There is one roof.
