A.A.C., Cascade Section. Fantastic climbing weather coupled with some very interesting functions made 1985 a great year for the Cascade Section. As usual our members compiled an impressive list of new routes and ascents in our local mountains and in many other ranges of the world. Under the chairmanship of George Sainsbury our 1985 programs started with the annual banquet, attended by 200 members and guests. This nearly record crowd enjoyed Jim Wickwire’s presentation—“Everest via The Great Couloir.” Additional programs in ’85 included: Mick Holt, AAC representative to the 1984 French Rassemblement in Chamonix, Scott Woolums, Great Trango Tower, North Face, Al Errington, Seven Expeditions to the High Arctic, and we ended the year with an interesting presentation/discussion on the tragic Grand Teton accident by Paul Johnson, one of the two survivors. All of these meetings were extremely well attended and we are grateful to the presentors.

Dee Molenaar and Pete Schoening organized a memorable repair and maintenance work party at the residence of Ome and Matie Daiber. The Daibers, nationally recognized for their contribution to mountaineering and mountain rescue, are well deserving of our attention. Twenty-five AAC and Mountain Rescue members donated their time and skills during two weekends in May. Our goals for 1986 are to continue our fine series of programs, increase communication between members, and increase our membership, now at 230, to over the 250 mark.
