Peaks in Southern Schweizer land, East Greenland. Our ski, mountaineering and scientific expedition of the Ligure Section of the Italian Alpine Club consisted of Anthony House, Marco and Enrico Chierici, Emma and Gianni Bisio, Paolo Gardino, Bruno Vian, Magda DeFerrari, Carlo Malerba, Mino Girelli, Rosanna Pisoni, G. Camillo Cortemiglia, Bruno Messiga, G. Battista Piccardo and me as leader. On July 14 we were helicoptered to Base Camp at 66°12'02" N, 36°46'05" W, between the 16th of September and Kârale Glaciers. On our return we skied to the head of the Tasîlaq Fjord and returned to Angmagssalik by boat. Ascents were mountaineering climbs unless mention is made of their being ski ascents.—Editor. ] P 1750 (5742 feet) via east side, ski, on July 15 by Fasciolo, House, M. and E. Chierici, E. and G. Bisio, Gardino, Vian, DeFerrari, Malerba and via south side, ski, on July 19 by Fasciolo, Gardino; Peak 2 (1550 meters, 5081 feet) via new route, southwest face, by House, E. Chierici; Peak 3 (1600 meters, 5250 feet) via south side, probable first ascent, ski, by Gardino, Malerba; Peak 4 (1650 meters, 5414 feet) via west side, ski, by G. Bisio, Vian, DeFerrari (Peaks 3,4, and 2 lie from northwest to southeast about 3 kms west of P 1700; all three were climbed on July 16); Peak 5 (1550 meters, 5081 feet) via new route on ice and mixed terrain on west face by Fasciolo, House, E. and M. Chierici and Peak 6 (1300 meters, 4265 feet) via west side, ski, by E. and G. Bisio, Vian, Gardino, Malerba, DeFerrari (Peak 5 is northeast of Peak 6 about 4 kms southeast of P 1700; both climed on July 17); Peak 8 (1400 meters, 4593 feet) via southwest side on July 20 by Gardino, G. Bisio, Malerba (2 kms east of P 1750); Peak 9 (1500 meters, 4922 feet) via north ridge, first ascent, on July 21 by House, E. Chierici (4 kms south of P 1700);and P 1700 (5578 feet) via new route, west spur, by Fasciolo, M. Chierici and via north ridge by Gardini, Malerba on July 21. E. and M. Chierici, House, Gerelli and I then traveled two days east nearly to the junction of the 16th of September and Knud Rasmussen Glaciers and on July 26 climbed P 1780 (5840 feet) by a new route, the south face. An extensive program of petrographical, geological and geomor- phological work was carried out by the University of Genoa as well as zoological and botanical studies.
