Huamashraju, Northwest Ridge and Alpamayo. Pete Billington, Steve Callen, Dave Wilson and I climbed Huamashraju by its northwest ridge on May 8. The ridge offered steep, good climbing to the summit. Short snowstorms delayed us in the afternoon and so we had to bivouac in a cave just below the summit. After a 12-hour wait without sleeping bags, we crossed the face and descended the south ridge. We climbed Alpamayo by its north ridge, reaching the northern summit on May 27.
