South America, Peru—Cordillera Blanca, Huascarán, Huandoy Norte

Publication Year: 1967.

Huascarán, Huandoy Norte. Our expedition consisted of only Alfred Lux and me. On June 10 we got to within 325 feet of the top of Chopi- calqui, before a storm hit, which forced us to turn back. We reached camp after a bivouac. On June 15 we climbed Huandoy Norte (the highest peak of the group, 20,981 feet, which has been climbed various times). We ascended from the Llanganuco lakes and bivouacked in the col. On the 26th we completed the ascent of the main peak of Huascarán (22,205 feet) by the normal route in a six-day round trip.
