Sermiligaaq Fjord, Various Routes
Greenland, East Greenland, Schweizerland
At the end of July, a team of four from Scotland’s University of Stirling—Rosie Aldridge, Dylan Coker, Megan Cumming, and Benjamin Toole—established a base camp on the north shore of Rodin Bay in Sermiligaaq Fjord (66.084906, -36.600279) and spent 23 days in the area. When their original objectives up the Karale Glacier (various spellings) proved inaccessible due to glacier and weather conditions, they concentrated on rock climbs closer to camp, completing various routes up to seven pitches and AD-.
The team also collected samples from two glaciers for the Global Atmospheric Plastic Survey (GAPS), a citizen-science initiative surveying airborne nano- and microplastics. In their expedition report, the team also noted their difficulty with obtaining rescue insurance for this area. The full expedition report, with many photos, is available to download here.
