Pedra Riscada, East Face, Brasiliana
Brazil, Minas Gerais
In early August 2025, our team of Brazilian climbers—Felipe Alvares, Vitor Barbosa, Guilherme César, Paulo Exu, Adilson Otto, Luca Portilho, Ivan Ranuzia, Lucas Rocha, Vinícios Torres, Cauí Vieira, and I—established a new route on the east face of Pedra Riscada: Brasiliana (1,000m, 8a+).
The new route ascends the most imposing sector of Pedra Riscada’s east face, just to the left of the 2023 route Rabiosa (900m, 8a). The climbing here is vertical, technical, and, in some sections, slightly overhanging. The first five pitches of Brasiliana follow ramps, then three pitches use trad gear in a beautiful dihedral, and the rest of the route uses bolts and has the most difficult climbing.
Our climb gave no opportunity for rest: Small holds, bromeliads, and complex route-finding made each pitch a challenge. On August 13, our team reached the top, completing a 24-pitch route that helps raise the technical level of Brazilian big-wall climbing. To climb this route, teams should bring two sets of Camalots (0.3 to 4) and 15 quickdraws. Descend via rappel.
