Karakoman Glacier Area, Many Ascents
Kyrgyzstan, Tien Shan, Fergana Range
In late August and early September 2022, a team from the International School of Mountaineering, with a total of four guides and nine climbers, ascended numerous peaks in the northwest end of the Fergana Range. The team arrived at base camp (3,250m) on August 27 and spent the next eight days exploring two glaciated arms of the Karakoman (Kara-Karmin) Glacier. They climbed about a dozen peaks from 4,400m to 4,900m, most of which were likely first ascents. More information and photos are at the ISM website.
[This general area has been visited by climbers at least twice. A trio in 2007 climbed Uch-Seit (Uch Zeid, ca 4,900m), the highest peak in the area (also climbed by the 2022 team); see AAJ 2008. In 2013, a team from the U.K. made probable first ascents of four peaks above these glaciers (AAJ 2014).]
