Nevado Minafierro Oeste, Paseo Con Soledad
Peru, Cordillera Venturosa
The Cordillera Venturosa is a small range of about 20 summits, with a few small glaciers, west of the Cordillera de la Viuda and east of Lima, about a four-hour drive from the city. Many of the summits are unnamed; one of the highest is Nevado Minafierro Oeste (ca 5,260m).
Steve Meder, a Frenchman living in Peru, soloed a partial new line on Nevado Minafierro on November 16. His route started at 5,000m on the left side of the southwest face, near a 2015 route called Escudito Camycam. That route climbs left of a rock buttress splitting a couloir, then up an icy headwall. Meder ascended to the right of the rock buttress on mixed terrain (M3), then up the right side of the ice wall, where he found 70m of WI3 (max. 75°–80°).
From the summit, he descended the normal route down the glacier, well to the right of the ascent route. Meder christened his route Paseo con Soledad (250m, D- WI3 M3).
