Cuerno Principal, Serenvida
Chile, Southern Patagonia, Torres del Paine
In early 2023, Diego Arredondo and Camila Monsalve (Chile) started working on the first route up the north face of Cuerno Principal in Torres del Paine National Park, approaching via the Bader Valley. That season they made two attempts, the second with Shutaro Fujiwara (Japan).
In February 2024, the three of them, along with Angela Cardenas (Chile), were able to finish the route, though they did not make the summit. Their line starts on a pedestal 100m right of the col with Cuerno Este, and at two-thirds height traverses left to follow an obvious corner. This leads to the slate band on the upper mountain. There were two aid sections that required pitons, including Peckers, and a handful of copperheads.
Once on the slate, they traversed right to the original 1968 line, climbing two pitches up it before retreating, five pitches below the summit. In all they covered 500m with difficulties up to 5.11 and A2+. It took them three days, spending two cold nights on the wall. They christened their route Serenvida.
