Mt. Dag, The Light Slinger

Canada, British Columbia, Columbia Mountains, Valhalla Ranges
Author: Information from Canadian Alpine Journal. Climb Year: 2020. Publication Year: 2023.

Previously unreported in the AAJ was a new free route up the north face of Mt. Dag, east of well-known Gimli Peak. In August 2020, Aaron Harris and Stephen Senecal followed the standard 4th- and low 5th-class approach to a bivouac on the big Smorgasbord Ledge. Over the next two days, the two climbed 13 new pitches to create The Light Slinger (900m, ED2 5.11b), left of both the original Mt. Dag route, Sweet Judy Blue Eyes (Kligfield-\Roskelley, 1971), and Riding Skinfaxi (Jones-Lussier, 2002). See Senecal’s story about this climb and two new routes on the nearby Wolf’s Ears in the 2022 Canadian Alpine Journal.
