Two Boulder Canyon Accidents

In March, a woman was lowered off the end of her rope on Frothing Green at the Bowling Alley, suffering a head laceration in a tumbling fall. The pitch is obviously long and is best climbed with a 70-meter rope (some route descriptions warn of this), and a stopper knot in the belayer’s end of the rope would have prevented this accident.

In June, a 29-year-old woman fell from the tricky-to-protect first pitch of Cosmosis (5.10a) at Bell Buttress; a nut and small cam pulled out, and she hit the belay ledge 20 to 25 feet below, breaking an ankle and possibly vertebrae.
