Roberts Massif

Antarctic, Transantarctic Range, Queen Maud Mountains
Author: Damien Gildea. Climb Year: 2017. Publication Year: 2017.

On January 15, 2017, a British military group commemorating Henry Worsley and comprising Alex Brazier, Chris Brooke, Jamie Facer-Childs, Alun George, Lou Rudd, and Ollie Stoten made the first ascent of Roberts Massif (ca 2,700m), while returning from the South Pole. While this is not so much a peak as a low, rocky feature at the head of the Shackleton Glacier, this is the first time that a team traveling back from the pole has stopped to climb any summit in the Transantarctics since Roald Amundsen (with Johanssen and Wisting) reached the top of Mt. Betty (Herbert Range) in January 1912.
