Cerro Castillo National Reserve, New Routes

Chile, Northern Patagonia, Aysén Region
Author: Erik Rieger. Climb Year: 2015. Publication Year: 2016.

In September 2015, Pedro Binfa and Marcelo Mascareño climbed a new route in winter up the south face of Cerro Sahne Nuss. The climb contained steep snow, ice, drytooling, and some aid, taking a prominent right-angling gash to the summit ridge, which they followed to the top. They called the climb La Invernada (300m, 5.8 A1 WI2 M4). Binfa returned with Marissa Bieger in January 2016, and the two climbers ascended a new route up a snow/mixed gully on the broad southwest ridge (left of the previous route). High on the ridge, a long traverse right and then back left allowed them to gain the north aspect and then the summit. They called the climb Las Vueltas de la Vida (350m, 5.8).
