Rocky Mountain National Park, Summary of New Climbs
Colorado, Front Range
In September and October 2014, Ben Collett and Rob Smith climbed two moderate new ice/ mixed routes in the Longs Peak area. Smith’s Route (III M5) ascends the gully left of Zumie’s Thumb in the east cirque of Longs Peak. Duncan Did It First (800’, WI3 M5) begins from a terrace a couple of hundred feet above Columbine Lake, below Mt. Meeker, and ascends a broken-looking, north-facing wall.
In March 2015, Chris Sheridan and Doug Shepherd climbed Analysis Paralysis (900’, M6) on Hallett Peak’s third buttress. The route ascends three pitches of what is likely new terrain before joining the Kor–Van Tongeren rock climb (1962) for two pitches in an obvious chimney.
In July, Michael Goodhue and Tim Davis climbed Victory Garden (800’, 5.9) on the west face of Aiguille de Fleur.
In August, Maximilian Barlerin and Quinn Brett climbed Geronimo (7 pitches, 5.12 R) on the left side of Chiefshead’s northeast face. Adam Baxter and Josh Gross climbed Raise the Roof (III 5.8 R) on Thatchtop’s northwest face, in the vicinity of the ice/mixed route Upper Wall, to the right of the Necrophilia gully.
In September 2015, Ben Collett and Will Mayo climbed Taylor Made (700’ 5.10) on the lower, south-facing rock tier of Taylor Peak.
