Once again the Great Lakes Section hosted two major events in 2014. The section continues to grow, due in large part to these events. The 2014 Michigan Ice Fest brought 411 participants to Munising for another year of excellent ice conditions at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Grand Island. The Ice Fest is the largest gathering of Midwest climbers and the section’s biggest event, which results in new members for the AAC and the Access Fund. In the fall we hosted Climb Up 2014! with Down Wind Sports, a four-day event on the south shore of Lake Superior. Climbing ethics, adventure stories, and much more were discussed around the campfire after long days of climbing at Silver Mountain near Baraga.
