In 2014 the Idaho Section enjoyed consistent participation of its members and persistent engagement with non-members in the mountaineering and outdoor communities—a concrete step toward further strengthening ties with the community in 2015.

In April the section invited Mike Libecki for a dinner and meet-and-greet in Boise. In June we sponsored a clean-up day at Laclede Rocks, an Idaho gem with a wide variety of climbing, overlooking the Pend Oreille River. The event affirmed our local climbers’ interest in resource preservation through volunteer work.

In September many of our members gathered at the Idaho Mountain Festival, the largest annual gathering of climbers and outdoors people in the state. The festival, in its third year, was sold out despite bad weather. The AAC made connections with key Idahoans, including a local state legislator. In October, Longleaf Wilderness Medicine, based in northern Idaho, partnered with the AAC to provide wilderness education for climbers. Climber education and safety were key agenda items for the section in 2014, and are expected to remain significant in 2015.
