Golden Sentinel, Northwest Face

India, Zanskar
Author: Lindsay Griffin. Climb Year: 2014. Publication Year: 2015.

Galina Chibitok (Russia) and Marina Kopteva (Ukraine) spent seven days in September making the first ascent of the 900m northwest face of Golden Sentinel (ca 5,200m). They graded the route 6B (VI A2/A3). Golden Sentinel is the second major rock tower north of Shafat Fortress (ca 5,900m), first climbed by Jonny Copp and Micah Dash in 2007. An Italian expedition, the CAI Curbattt Group, made the first ascent of Golden Sentinel, also in 2007, approaching from the Suru Valley. The Italians climbed two routes: the north ridge and the east face, both at UIAA VI.
