In preparation for an expedition to the Volcano Pular, in July 2004, Norberto Alarcon, Freddy Grey, and I opened a route to the south summit of the Rubillas massif. The ascent was done in the day, starting from the town of Baños Morales, east of Santiago, and then by entering El Monumento Natural El Morado. After overcoming the initial slopes on the peak, we reached the base of the rocky outcrop on the southern summit. From here, mixed ground and some quite exposed terrain lead to the summit: (800m, AD/D 60° 5.8)
