On January 8, 2015, Doychin Boyanov, Nikolay Petkov, and Aleksander Shopov (Bulgaria) made the first ascent of Falsa Aguja (1,680m) via the north ridge. They climbed from a camp on the vast plateau north of the main Tangra Range. The team measured the summit at 1,679.5m (compared with 1,690m in the 2004–’05 Bulgarian survey), confirming the peak is the second highest on the island, after Mt. Friesland (1,700m).

The Bulgarian personnel have been referring to this mountain as “Great Needle Peak” rather than the translation of the official name, “False Needle,” as they feel it is more appropriate and accurate.
