Anvers Island, Various Ascents
Antarctica, Antarctic Peninsula
In January 2015 a Chinese group led by Daliu (the first private Chinese mountaineering expedition to the Peninsula) and a British group led by me together climbed 10 summits, including two first ascents on Anvers Island.
We climbed Peak 1,217m (nicknamed Little Dog), which lies between the Minaret and Shewry Peak, from the east side. We also climbed Peak 1,155m, which lies between Mt. Rennie and Mt. Moberly, from the west. We made second ascents of Shewry Peak (1,065m) and Mt. Rennie (1,535m).
Earlier, in October, I led a group of ski mountaineers that completed a new high-level traverse of South Georgia, from King Haakon Bay to Stromness. We crossed the Esmark Glacier, Zig-Zag Pass, and Kohl-Larsen Plateau before cutting through a narrow, nameless pass to reach the southwest tributary of the Konig Glacier.
