Climb Year: 2013. Publication Year: 2014.

On June 30, the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center out of Bridgeport was on Mt. Shasta conducting training exercises when Seargent Ruiz (25) attempted to jump over a crevasse at around 11,500 feet. Upon landing on the other side of the crevasse, he injured his knee and fell back into the crevasse. The other Marines were able to rescue him from the crevasse and lower him to a place where he could be hoisted into a California Highway Patrol helicopter.
