In 2012 Chinese Chen Hui and Pan Xiaobing made a late-November ascent of Pomiu via a partial new line. On the 17th, using horses to carry equipment, they reached base camp southwest of the mountain at 4,100m. Next day they climbed through scree and grassy slopes, interrupted by one loose rock pitch of 5.10a, to reach Camp 1 at 4,442m, below the southwest face. Over the next four days they climbed about 14 pitches, up to 5.10, to reach the south-southwest ridge, where they joined the route followed by three Chinese climbers in 2005 for the third ascent of the peak (AAJ 2013). The pair moved slowly due to Chen Hui leading every pitch of the route, descending, and then reascending with both rucksacks. They reached the summit in two more days. The ca 1,200m route (24 pitches, 5.10a) was named Warm.
