Alaska Section
The Alaska Section partnered with the Hatcher Pass Mountaineering Huts Group to support motorized vehicle–boundary education and incident reporting around the Snowbird Hut. This involved posting boundary signs, handing out brochures with motorized-boundary maps, and speaking at various functions. Together, we hope to support the Department of Natural Resources in maintaining the present boundaries, in order to allow safe non-motorized passage to the Snowbird Hut.
Harry Hunt and Cindi Squire treated the hut to a major mold-remediation project this summer. The interior walls were sterilized and sanded, and then a special mold-killing primer and paint were applied. Venting was installed to combat moisture buildup when the hut is in use. The remedies are proving to work well, and the mold has not reappeared. The hut continues to be wellused in winter and summer.
Many of our members are making a difference. Particular thanks are due to Clint Helander for the time he dedicates to speaking and giving slideshows for local climbing groups.
