Cerro Coltrane (Mt. Beyond the Far), clarification of first ascent; other disambiguation notes

Argentina-Chile, Cordillera de Darwin
Author: Natalia Martinez and Camilo Rada . Climb Year: 2013. Publication Year: 2014.

During the first longitudinal traverse of the Cordillera de Darwin, the French GMHM climbed a peak they called Mt. Beyond the Far, believing this to be the first ascent (AAJ 2012). However, during research for the Uncharted Project, mapping and documenting the history of peaks in Tierra del Fuego, we learned that this peak was climbed during an extraordinary and unreported expedition by Americans Douglas Krause and David Scheer in 1991. They named the peak Mt. Coltrane (2,011m, Chilean IGM map; 2,026m GPS).

[Editor’s note: The Uncharted Project has uncovered many second or even third “first ascents” of peaks in the Cordillera de Darwin, as well as many ambiguous names. Camilo Rada and Natalia Martinez have prepared extensive documentation of these errors and duplications, and their Cordillera de Darwin Disambiguation Notes can be found at the AAJ website.]
