South Tower of Paine, southeast face, Wall of Paine (not to summit)

Argentina-Chile, Torres del Paine
Climb Year: 2013. Publication Year: 2014.

In October-November 2013, Jerry Gore, Raphael Jochaud, Calum Muskett, and Mike “Twid” Turner made the first ascent of the southeast face of the South Tower of Paine. The South Tower stands tallest among the three towers that form the massif, and the smooth southeast face offers more than 1,000m of climbing. Constant exposure to wind and storm greatly exacerbate its difficulty. Wall of Paine (900m, A3+) climbs 18 pitches of sustained, difficult climbing. The first half of the route contained poor rock but improved higher, allowing for more free climbing. Unfortunately, harsh winds up to 150km/h forced the climbers to retreat after topping out the wall, just 100m shy of the summit.
