Bridger Jack Butte, Sucker Punch

Utah, Indian Creek
Author: Jason Nelson . Climb Year: 2012. Publication Year: 2014.

In October 2012, Mary Harlan and I began work on some new routes on the northwest corner of the Bridger Jack butte in Indian Creek, just outside of Canyonlands. The routes are just around the buttress as you hike toward the climb Rimshot. I returned in spring of 2013 with Jack Jefferies to finish one of these routes to the summit, and then it took one more trip with Lizzy Scully to get the free ascent. I called it Sucker Punch (5 pitches, 5.12). The route’s highlights are an overhanging, zigzagging splitter crack on pitch two and an overhanging and leaning four-inch crack on pitch three, which begins with a dramatic roof. I’m working on an additional route to the right that will likely check in at 5.11/5.11+.
