After returning to Skardu for a rest after a new route on K7, Kyle Dempster and Hayden Kennedy joined Josh Wharton (USA) on the Choktoi Glacier. There have been many attempts to climb the Ogre from the southeast, nearly all via the elegant southeast pillar. However, in 2009 three French alpinists climbed a cunning, complex line to outflank the pillar and reach the upper south face, which they climbed to 6,800m before retreating (AAJ 2010). The three Americans chose to attempt the same line. A full account of this ascent, only the third overall of the Ogre, can be found here.
