In our inaugural year as an independent section, we worked with Regional Coordinator Jeff Deikis to achieve a solid start. We initiated a series of communications with club members and created a Facebook presence, and on March 31 AAC members joined the Arizona Mountaineering Club for its 48th birthday celebration at Pinnacle Peak Park. Climb-and-Brew events were held in April in Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff. On April 22, a Play in the Arizona Snow Day was held on Mt. Humphreys. Members also met to climb at Jack’s Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, and the McDowells, among other places. Some outings were set up so AAC members could meet local climbing guidebook authors, including Eric Richard-Fazio, who led a Mt. Lemmon outing on August 12. Several social events also were held. A screening of Reel Rock films and an audience-choice film night occurred in Flagstaff. A gear swap was held in Phoenix in conjunction with the Arizona Mountaineering Club. Section members also assisted with an AAC-supported stewardship day at Le Petit Verdon, south of Flagstaff, in August, and a post-fire stewardship day at Jack’s Canyon in November.
