On February 18 a female ice climber (49) fell while rappelling during a guided ice climb with her husband and daughter. She was approximately 20 to 30 feet above the ground when she slipped and swung sideways into a protruding ice formation. She was taken to McKee Medical Center and treated for blunt-force trauma to her hip and lower back. (Source: edited from Denverpost.com by Aram Attarian.)

Analysis

We were not able to determine if the guide was belaying her. A good belay might have prevented this incident.
