In November, Chilean climbers Alvaro Vivanco, Juanita Guerra, and I, along with the German climber Max Beckmann, traveled to the Cajón de Navarro, in the V region of Chile, an area north of the Cordillera Central. Our objective was the unclimbed Punton Amarillo (4,157m), located near Paso Fronterizo Los Libertadores along the border of Chile and Argentina. We bivouacked along the Estero Navarro and then ascended slopes of loose rock to reach the base of the mountain, followed by snow slopes (45-55°) with many penitentes that hindered our progress. After four hours our group reached the summit (1,100m, 55°).
