VARIOUS FALLS ON ROCK, INADEQUATE BELAYS, AND INADEQUATE PROTECTION

New York, Mohonk Preserve, Shawangunks

We received twelve reports from this climbing area for the year 2006.

Of the nine falling accidents, eight occurred while leading and three involved protection pulling out. There were three inadequate belaying situations. In one case, the belayer dropped the climber to the ground.

The average age of those involved was 3 5 and the average difficulty of the climbs on which the incidents occurred was 5.6. The level of experience of five of those involved is unknown. All but one of the rest were experienced. (Source: From reports submitted by Mohonk Preserve)
